#272 – Stage A

Off set with Billy Allen mouth
3” Dee 5” Mouth

The Van Hargis Progressive Bit System was designed to gradually transition a horse from the two-handed direct rein communication of the Van Hargis Off-set D-ring snaffle to the subtle one-handed refined communication of the mild and comfortable Van Hargis All-Around Performance bit. Each bit further refines communication and prepares the horse for the next step of performance until the ultimate in communication and performance is achieved. This is a system of champions for champions.

This bit combines the qualities, features and benefits of my uniquely designed Offset D-ring snaffle with the versatile Billy Allen mouthpiece. This is a great bit selection for the horse tending to be a little loose in the neck and shoulders. The limited movement of this mouthpiece helps stabilize the shoulders while still being able to aid the horse laterally on the corners of the horse’s mouth independently. Sweet iron naturally rusts into a light patina. The rust creates a sweet taste for the horse and makes the bit more acceptable and increases salivation for a supple mouth. Mullen relief is used on all our snaffle mouthpieces which is a forward curve that creates even pressure across the bars and tongue to eliminate the nutcracker effect.

GOLDEN GLIDE BUSHINGS –
• Further enhance the smoothness of the independent cheek movement allowing for more precise cues
• Eliminate the cheek connection from pinching the horse’s lips
• Smooths the movement of the cheek piece for better feel and performance

“Whether I’m starting a young horse, tuning a performance horse or helping a horse overcome an issue, my first choice of bit is my smooth-mouth offset d-ring snaffle by Reinsman. With this bit, there’s no chance of ever pinching a horse’s cheeks because they are made with a unique brass bushing between the bit mount and the stainless steel d-rings.” – Van Hargis

Van Hargis is a horseman with a message. He is of today’s most versatile horsemen, a designation that reflects a lifetime devoted to learning-and communicating-the elements of superior horsemanship as applied in a variety of disciplines.

Are You Riding with Both Hands? Stage A bits are great for starting horses, training, or maintaining steady contact. Aspects include direct reining, non-leverage Loose Rings and Dee Rings with mouthpiece diameters 5/16” and over.
